Induction hobs work by passing an electric current through a set of copper coils. Sealed plate hobs - which are also known as solid plate hobs - also work using electricity. They work on the basis of passing electricity through heating coils underneath each ‘plate’. This causes the plate to heat up, cooking the food within a pot or pan that is placed on it.
