Whether you have a small utility room or a large, spacious kitchen, we’ve got the perfect dryer for you.
If you’re not sure what type of dryer is best for you and your home, then keep reading.
First of all, you need to decide whether you want a freestanding or integrated tumble dryer. Are you going to be putting your dryer within a cupboard or cabinet? Then you’ll want an integrated dryer. For all other settings, choose a freestanding tumble dryer.
How much washing are you going to be doing? Are you going to be washing for yourself, or have you got a large household? How you answer those questions will influence what capacity tumble dryer you buy.
Luckily, you’ll find the most common tumble dryer drum capacities here at Comet, from compact 7 kg tumble dryers to larger 8 kg tumble dryers. As a top tip, it’s generally a good idea to buy a tumble dryer which has a similar drum capacity to your washing machine.
Next, you’ll have to think about what type of tumble dryer you want. There are three main types of dryer currently available. Below, we’ve provided you with a brief overview of each type.
Vented tumble dryer
Vented tumble dryers tend to be the cheapest, most affordable type of tumble dryer you can buy for your home.
This type of tumble dryer uses hot air to evaporate the water in your laundry. As this moisture evaporates, it is then ‘vented’ out of the dryer through an outlet. This outlet is usually situated at the rear of the dryer. You’ll often find that a length of ducted hose is connected to the outlet. This allows you to funnel the moisture out of a window, doorway or external wall vent to the outside.
It’s because of this need to ‘vent’ out moisture that vented tumble dryers aren’t always suitable for every home.
However, if you are able to provide proper ventilation for the dryer, then you’ll find a vented tumble dryer to be one of the most cost-effective options you can buy.
Condenser tumble dryer
As the name suggests, a condenser tumble dryer works on the basis of condensation. They use heat to evaporate the water in your laundry. As this hot air cools, it is passed through a condenser, with the subsequent water being collected within a container. At the end of the cycle, you manually remove this container and empty it. Simple!
Condenser tumble dryers are particularly popular as they can be used in pretty much any type of home. They don’t require venting and typically take up less space than vented dryers.
Heat pump tumble dryer
If you’re particularly concerned about your energy bills and energy efficiency, then heat pump tumble dryers are by far your best option.
This type of tumble dryer works by recycling hot air over and over. This hot air is used to dry the laundry in the drum, evaporating the water in your clothes. As this hot air cools, it is passed through a condenser which separates the water from the air, collecting the water in a small storage tank. The remaining dry hot air is then fed back into the drum.
It’s for this reason that heat pump tumble dryers are the most energy efficient dryer you can buy. How efficient? Well, according to consumer magazine Which?, a heat pump tumble dryer could save you over £50 a year in electricity bills.
Note, heat pump tumble dryers do tend to be more expensive than vented and condenser tumble dryers, however over the long term they work out more cost-effective for most households.
Finally, you’ll want to look out for the particular features on your chosen tumble dryer. Hotpoint tumble dryers are available with a number of handy and convenient features such as ActiveCare, anti-allergy, easy-mix cycles, and quick cleaning - all of which make laundry day that much easier and less stressful.
Likewise, Indesit tumble dryers are available with features including multiple drying programs, noise reduction technology, mixed cycles, the Fast45 program that dries clothes in only 45 minutes and a shoe rack option for drying footwear.
Whichever type of tumble dryer is right for you, you’ll find the perfect model for your home here at Comet.
